Acer LumiRead Ebook Reader Tipped For IFA Unveiling [Acer LumiRead Rumored For October Release In Germany With A €250 Price Point]

It looks like we will have yet another ebook reader to consider when making a purchase come October. The latest device will be the LumiRead ebook reader from Acer, which is going to be officially unveiled during IFA 2010. As for the event, that will take place next month (September) in Germany.

And while we know that it will be unveiled in September and that it will be available in October, the initial launch is expected to only be in Germany. As for pricing, this so far is nothing more than rumor, but it looks like the LumiRead ebook reader will come sporting a €250 price tag (roughly $320 US).

Overall, the images that we have show what appears to be a decent looking reader. Of course, there is the competition and so far the ebook reader market is fairly packed. As to what the LumiRead has planned to stand out, and try to justify the higher price tag — an ISBN barcode scanner.

Otherwise, the Acer LumiRead is also expected to come touting connectivity in the form of Wi-Fi and 3G as well as a 6 inch E-Ink display with an 800 x 600 resolution. As for available content, according to Acer, the LumiRead will have access to the Barnes & Noble eBookstore.

With that, we look forward to IFA and the unveiling of the LumiRead. If nothing else, we are more than a little interested in seeing how well the ISBN scanner is going to work, and perhaps a little more important is whether it will be a solid feature that will get continued use or just fizzle out after a while. Features aside though, this should be a nice event for the folks at Acer, and we can only hope that it will be available for visitors to spend some hands on time with, as opposed to what happened at Computex where it was on display but only behind glass.
