Motorola Droid 2 Root Completed; We’re Not Surprised Nor Impressed [Don’t Look Now But the Motorola Droid 2 Has Been Rooted Too]
So, guess what, Android citizens? The Motorola Droid 2 has been rooted, but given the similarities between the original Droid and its successor, we’re neither impressed nor surprised. Not to mention that since jailbreaking, rooting and unlocking have become legal, at least in the USA, we’re always going to expect such things to happen to new devices.

In other words, it’s not a matter of if the Droid 2 was going to be rooted, but rather when that was going to happen. So, if you’d like your new Motorola Droid 2 to offer you superuser powers so you can do who-knows-what to the device, then we’re going to show you how to do it, just like we always do.
But before we bring the instructions over we’ll remind you that such activities will void your warranty and neither Verizon nor Motorola will be happy to hear you rooted your device. On the other hand you are paying for the handset yourself so we’re not going to tell you what to do with your money, but we’re simply going to remind you that you’re the sole responsible for anything that goes wrong during the process.
The manual rooting of the Droid 2 will take a while to perform so make sure you follow the exact steps below in case you don’t want to wait for the 1-touch version of it:
Setup:
- Install adb (here) and Motorola drivers (here)
- Download attached archive
- Extract to a directory, I used c:\Droid2Root
- Make sure you have USB degugging enabled
- Change connection to PC ModeProcess:
- Open command prompt
- cd c:/wherever-your-sdk-tools-folder-is
- adb devices (to verify the connection)
- cd c:/Droid2Root
- adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
- adb shell
- cd data/local/tmp
- chmod 0755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
- ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin- let the process run until it returns you to c:/Droid2Root
- cd c:/wherever-your-sdk-tools-folder-is
- adb devices (to verify the connection)
- adb shell (you should now have a # prompt)
- exit- cd c:/Droid2Root
- adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
- adb push su /system/bin/su
- adb push busybox /system/bin/busybox
- adb shell
- chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
- chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox
- exit
