Chrome Browser Extension Sends Links To Your iOS Device

Chrome To iPhone Browser Extension Does What The Name Implies, Sends Links From The Chrome Browser To Your iPhone Or iPad & iPod Touch

Google rolled out Chrome to Phone for Android smartphones earlier in the month and while it sounds like a great feature to have available — it is not one that many people have access to use. After all, Chrome to Phone requires Android 2.2 Froyo. Enough said there, however a new browser extension for Chrome will allow for similar functionality with iOS powered devices.

Yup, the new extension which is called Chrome to iPhone will allow the user to send links from the Chrome browser to their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. And the important part here is that the Chrome to iPhone extension sends links to URL’s only. That seems to be the main difference between the official Chrome to Phone setup from Google as that extension will allow the user to send links as well as maps, phone numbers, videos and more.

Still, this is a nice way to have the page you were reading or working on shifted over to your mobile quickly and easily. The other catch with Chrome to iPhone is that you have to launch the app (desktop shortcut) on your iPhone or other iOS device where Chrome to Phone will do that automatically.

The setup process is simple enough. Just install the Chrome to iPhone browser extension, at which time it will give you a URL to copy and paste into Mobile Safari. Once that is done you can then create that desktop shortcut on your iOS device. After that, just launch the shortcut to access your sent URL’s.

Again, while a slight bit limited, this is a decent extension and it certainly sounds like it is off to a good start. That said, there are other ways that will allow you to move a URL to your iPhone with little effort. Personally I do that with delicious. I have a bookmarklet in my browser and then I have the mobile page for delicious saved as a desktop shortcut on my iPad.
