Amazon: Third Generation Kindles Begin Shipping Two-Days Early & Are Now “The Fastest-Selling Kindles Ever” [Amazon Appears To Have A Hit With The Latest Kindle, The iPad May Not Have Killed The Kindle After All]
Amazon has come forward with a press release bragging about the latest Kindle ebook reader. The latest is the third generation and it is available in graphite or white as well as a 3G or Wi-Fi only model. But that is all stuff that we already knew. So what is new today?

Well, for one the third generation Kindles have begin shipping. And two days early at that. Sounds like a bit of good news for anyone who got their order in early. Of course, that does not change the fact that current ship dates are noted as being “on or before September 17th” at this point.
With that, the third generation Kindles are priced at $139 for the Wi-Fi only model and $189 for the 3G and Wi-Fi model. And given those prices, it looks like plenty of people are thinking they have reached a fair and reasonable point. I say that because in addition to announcing that the Kindle has begin shipping early, Amazon has also stated that the third generation Kindle is the “fastest selling” model so far.
Sadly though, Amazon, as per usual standards did not offer us anything in terms of sales numbers — not even anything general. They did however go on to state that “more new generation Kindles were ordered in the first four weeks of availability than in the same timeframe following any other Kindle launch.” Which sounds fancy, but really just reiterates the last point about being the fastest selling.
Furthermore, the Kindle has remained as the most popular item in the Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk stores, which means that the Kindle has retained its two year run as the best selling product.
Granted, some people may have replaced their Kindle with another device such as the iPad or a smartphone. I did, my Kindle went to my mom in favor of the iPad. But myself aside, it looks like the iPad may not have been as damaging as many would have guessed.
