Peugeot's 3008 Hybrid4 First Ever "Through The Road" Hybrid

Peugeot Diesel Hybrid Also First Light-Duty Diesel

We all know and love hybrids as a great way to get around in a greener fashion without sacrificing a whole lot of speed and performance, so it’s some exciting news out of automaker Peugeot who has announced the first through-the-road hybrid.

Not only is it the first through-the-road hybrid (meaning that its rear-axle electric motor operates independently of the main drivetrain), it’s also the first light-duty diesel hybrid car to market.

More specifically, it’s a 163 horsepower vehicle with a 2.0 liter inline-four diesel engine, supplemented by the aforementioned 37 horsepower electric motor at the rear axle. It can use its electric motor by itself, or provide all-wheel-drive as the driver needs. Even better, the electric motor can be recharged by “regenerative braking”, where brakes provide an electric current to recharge batteries.

And the bottom line is that the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 gets a whopping 61.9 miles per gallon.

Sounds pretty nice, though there isn’t yet word on pricing or availability. It does, however, seem like a great green way to get around.
