ViewSonic To Show 7" & 10" Tablets During IFA
ViewSonic appears to have some big plans for the upcoming IFA 2010 tradeshow and according to the details, there will be a 7 inch and 10 inch tablet unveiled. The devices will be the ViewPad 7 and the ViewPad 10, more interestingly though is that the larger model will offer a dual-boot setup with Windows and Android.

At this time the details are still coming to light and for the most part are expected. The ViewPad 7 and the ViewPad 10 will have 7 inch and 10 inch displays as the names imply. Otherwise they will both also offer the specs that you would assume to be present such as Wi-Fi, aGPS, microSD card slot, Bluetooth, G-Sensor and USB connectivity. In addition it was noted that the 7 inch mode will also include a front and rear facing camera as well as an option to add built-in 3G connectivity.
Furthermore, according to the press release that ViewSonic offered up, the 7 inch tablet will have access to “access to thousands of applications.” The question remains as to where those thousands of applications are coming from. Will they be in the form of the official Android Market or one of the other alternative markets, or even a new one that ViewSonic is starting. Of course, that is just a bit of speculation and there was not any indication of ViewSonic launching a market of their own.
Moving on to the 10 inch tablet, this one is said to be Intel-based and having Windows and Android, though nothing was mentioned as to which versions of either. That said, the version of Windows could be anything from Windows Embedded Compact 7 to Windows 7. In other words, a variety of options, though Windows 7 would be nice. As for Android, we can only hope for 2.2, or at the very least 2.1.
With that, things are still looking up for Android tablets. Unfortunately though, at the time we are hearing more about what is coming than actually seeing anything. But that just seems like a repeat of what we saw prior to the launch of the T-Mobile G1 — lots of talk about Android smartphones with very little on the market — then things blew up. Hopefully that is what we see with Android tablets.
