Verizon Swapping Broken Motorola Droid Handsets For Droid 2s
There is certainly no drought when it comes to Android powered smartphones with many of them featuring some pretty hefty specs. However, it was not always this way as towards Android’s initial launch back in 2008, the only phone to feature Google’s mobile operating system was the T-Mobile G1 – a device loved by some and hated by others.

At the time, Android was pretty much a different operating system from what we’ve come to know today featuring functionality that barely compares to, say, Android 2.2. It wasn’t until the Motorola Droid was released on Verizon that the Android era was really ushered in and Google’s mobile operating system was deemed a more than capable competitor in the smart phone industry.
Now that Android has established itself and more than enough phones are on the market, it’s up to pioneering hardware manufacturers like Motorola to continue the trend. Capitalizing on the success of the original Droid, Motorola eventually went on to release the Motorola Droid 2 – a phone that featured essentially the same form factor as its predecessor but with some beefed up specs thrown into the mix.
Considering the Droid 2 was released under 2-years after the original, it was hard for early adopters to upgrade to the newer handset due to still being locked into their contract. However, according to some user reports, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel.
Apparently, if you have a broken Motorola Droid, some confidence and a bit of luck, Verizon will swap your broken handset for the newer Droid 2. However, before you go smashing your Droid in hopes of getting a new one, make note that this has not been confirmed by Verizon and is instead nothing more than a user report.
If, however, this is a widespread trend Verizon is definitely going to get some brownie points as swapping out an older handset for its successor is quite the good deed.
