Microsoft Releases 250GB Hard Drive For Xbox 360 S Models

Slim Xbox 360 Getting Fat Hard Drive, $130 Pricing Controversial As Always

The new 250GB hard drive for the new “Slim” Xbox 360 S units begun appearing this week in some online retailers. As the tech blog circuit started getting excited over “OMG leak”, Microsoft spoiled their fun by confirming it via Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hyrb video. The new 250GB hard drive is the biggest Microsoft has offered yet, and will set back Xbox gamers $130.

As always, the pricing scheme for Microsoft’s hard drives has come under fire from the public. As it’s easy to find OEM hard drivers for considerably cheaper than what Microsoft charges for them – Microsoft’s official reply has always been that they have to buy the enclosure for the drives and they also buy certain drives that are rated for quality, lifespan, etc.

The truth probably is somewhere in the middle, Microsoft does buy better-then-cheap drives, but they’re probably also taking a profit off of them as well. If you’re into storing media and things on your Xbox 360, then these bigger drives are essential. Some of us at the TFTS offices found that with our launch-day Xbox 360s, the 20GB hard drives are getting mighty full after five years with just game patches, DLC and save games.

We’re curious, how many of you have already snagged the new Xbox 360 Slim? Will you be getting the 250GB hard drive upgrade? Sound off in the comments section.

More BS from Microsoft. Proprietary this, add on that, Red Ring of all the way to the bank. Consumers should be insulted and wise up. This is exactly why people pirate games, hack hardware and put down the 360. Part of what makes Windows and PCs better than Apple and OSX is how open they are. Take a lesson from your PC market, Microsoft. Have fun paying $70 for a cheap plastic enclosure, 360 owners.

What a bunch of BS from M$ (Microsoft)You can get a new 250gb from Frys or Newegg for less then 50 bucks and install it yourself yourself using hddss.bin 250gb. Anyone who pays 130 plus tax for a M$ is an fool.
