LG Vice President Promises Android Tablet Will Be Better Than iPad [LG's Coming Android Tablet To Focus On Content Creation, Also Big Hopes For Optimus Brand]

The Wall Street Journal recently chatted with LG’s Vice President of marketing for their mobile phone division, Chang Ma. Mr. Ma had a few interesting choice quotes that are making their way around the tech blog circuit today.

Ma said that the Android tablet that LG is making will be better than the iPad. He said, as quoted by the WSJ:

“Our tablet will be better than the iPad.”

Many people agree with Ma. One of the common complaints regarding the iPad is that it’s optimized for consuming video and other media, with little regarding for doing things on it. Some have described the office software on the iPad has ill-equipped.

Ma believes that the LG tablet will be more equipped for getting things done. He told the WSJ that the phone will be “surprisingly productive”. When asked if the tablet would be sold with a wireless carrier (and possibly a 3G data plan), Ma declined to respond.

As we’ve previously reported on – LG also hopes to get back into the smartphone game (or into it for the first time, depending on your perspective). LG ships a LOT of phones every year (they released 145 new phones last year, many of them plain featurephones) and they’re third overall in the mobile phone segment. Yet, they’re nonexistent in the smartphone segment.

Their most recent Android entry – the LG Ally – was received poorly by the press with reviews mentioning poor hardware performance. It was also mostly known for its prominent tie-in with film “Iron Man 2″.

Ma reaffirmed to the WSJ that LG’s upcoming line of Android phones, dubbed ‘Optimus’ will be a success. However, some tech blogs are worried that the first phone, the LG Optimus One, has rumored specs that aren’t really impressive and don’t peg the phone as being a serious competitor to the HTC EVO 4G, Motorola Droid X – and other cutting-edge devices in the Android space.

Judging by comments in both the WSJ and Korea Times, LG seems to be taking Android seriously, both in tablets and mobile phones. Let’s see if they come out with any interesting products first.
