BlackBerry 9670 Oxford Details Leaked By Internal Overview Documents

BlackBerry 9670 Oxford Clamshell To Feature Internal & External Display, Wi-Fi, GPS & CDMA Radio

This is far from the first time we have heard mention of the clamshell styled BlackBerry 9670, however as of now we can refer to it as the Oxford and the details are official as they are coming courtesy of leaked training slides from RIM.

That alone is good news, leaked documents are better than the average ‘heard it from a source’ rumor. Of course, given we have seen both images and details of the BlackBerry 9670 in the past, some of this will end up being a recap.

That said, onto the specs. The BlackBerry 9670 will be sporting two displays — a 240 x 320 external and a 360 x 400 internal. In addition, on the inside you will find a full hardware QWERTY keyboard along with an optical trackpad. Nothing overly surprising there, after all we have seen this as a similar form factor with the Pearl Flip. Granted, the Pearl Flip had the SureType keyboard as opposed to a full QWERTY, but the clamshell style is the same.

The other nice bit of confirmation comes in the form of the radio — the 9670 is CDMA which means it will be heading to Sprint and/or Verizon here in the US. And given we have already seen an image leak for both carriers, it is likely to believe it will go to both.

Also similar to other BlackBerry handsets, the 9670 will have a right convenience (camera) key as well as menu, send, end and escape keys. As for the external display, it will display a clock as well as alert notifications and caller ID information.

In addition the BlackBerry 9670 will have Wi-Fi, GPS, 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus, face detection and image stabilization and ship with an 8GB microSD card. And similar to what we saw in yesterdays leak with the BlackBerry Bold R020, the clamshell 9670 will ship with BlackBerry 6 in terms of the operating system.

The one bit of disappointing news, the documents made no mention of a release timeframe or price.
