Ubisoft Shows Off Fighters Uncaged Fighting Game For Kinect

Ubisoft's Fighters Uncaged Video Game For Xbox 360 With Kinect Is Something We Actually Want

There are two technologies that much of the video gaming industry is really making a push towards; 3D and motion control. Nintendo made strides with 3D display technology by announcing their Nintendo 3DS portable gaming console at this year’s E3. What’s so amazing about the device is the fact that it uses an autostereoscopic 3D display panel meaning you won’t have to wear those wonky 3D glasses. PS3, on the other hand, showed off high definition 3D gamign on the PS3 with titles like Killzone 3.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has decided to stray from 3D a bit (considering their console doesn’t even have a Blu-ray drive) and focus instead on motion control. Nintendo has their Wii game console with motion controller and Sony has their Playstation Move motion controller for the Playstation 3. However, both of these controllers feature a similar wand hardware based controller set up while Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller for the Xbox 360, does not.

Instead Kinect utilizes a special camera designed to track things such as a user’s movements in 3D along with voice and facial recognition. The hardware is seemingly amazing but many of the titles we hvae seen thus far seem lackluster and suited more for a mini game based disc (a la Wii Sports). Luckily, Ubisoft has come forth today to announce Fighters Uncaged – a fighting game designed specifically for use with the Xbox 360 Kinect controller.

If you remember the original Kinect promotional videos you’ll know it featured a segment with a gamer controlling an onscreen avatar during a fight. Fighters Uncaged looks to be that gameplay in an actual presentation as you’ll be flailing your fists, legs and maybe even head to oust your opponent and depleast his life bar.

I can’t say if I’d enjoy this more than say Street Fighter, Tekken or any of the other non-motion sensing controller based fighters out there but it will surely be interesting to see how successfully the Kinect technology can be implemented into a game geared at more hardcore gamers.
