Intel Buys McAfee for $7.68 Billion
In what has to be the most eye-catching acquisition we have heard of late, Intel has reportedly acquired software security giant McAfee for a record $7.68 billion in cash.
Under the deal, McAfee will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary and will report to Intel’s Software and Services Group.
The acquisition is perhaps one of the marquee and sensible one we have seen to date, two familiar names in the technology world which should offer better protection for consumers, corporations and even the government.
McAfee is one of the leading security software companies which had recorded a $2 billion revenue in 2009.
For the record, McAfee has also acquired Trust Digital and TenCube which should benefit Intel all the more.
The latest deal in the cyberworld should be something noting, especially in the modern world of computers and mobile devices in need of reliable security software.
The entry of McAfee should bolster Intel’s energy-efficient and connectivity computing solutions which they are offering at present.
