Second Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo & Flash Update Nowhere to be Found? HTC Incredible Froyo Build Also Missing
It’s August 18 already folks, and even if it’s too early to sound the alarm, the first signs of the day point to a disappointing outcome. The Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Incredible were supposed to get some Android 2.2 Froyo love today, but there’s no sign of such activities just yet from Verizon.

The Motorola Droid is already running Froyo officially. What it isn’t running officially is Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1 and, according to very recent leaks, a new update was supposed to arrive to offer Flash support to the millions of Droid owners in the USA.
There were/are two different Android 2.2 builds for the Droid available at some point and we found everything very confusing. Verizon was pushing one Froyo version first, to cancel it later and then reapprove it. So what happened to the second update? Flash is supposed to hit various Android devices this year, hopefully not only Android-based ones, so the Droid should get it already.
The web is awfully quiet about this so we couldn’t have missed this second update, did we? Let us know, fellow Droid users, about the state of Froyo and Flash on your smartphone!
The HTC Droid Incredible was also said to receive its own Android 2.2 build today, and hopefully the first and only, but so far we have no announcements from either HTC or Verizon.
The previous HTC device to get Froyo was the EVO 4G, and we’re still receiving plenty of complaints about the EVO’s performance after the update. Is HTC taking things slowly when it comes to the HTC Incredible and Froyo? Or are we simply to understand the previous rumors saying Android 2.2 is coming this week to the Droid Incredible were unfounded?
Again, if you happen to own a Droid Incredible (which is back in stock by the way) then hit us up in the comments section and tell us if you’ve gotten any notification regarding a potential OTA Froyo update today.

I have the original motor Droid and still haven’t received any froyo updates, and using the check for updates option in settings does nothing, as far as I’m concerned they should just remove that
My co-worker here in Florida got his moto droid update, but some of the others didn’t I think its hit or miss at this point. My HTC Incredible is a no go as of thus far.
I never got the first Android update, so I installed it myself…
No signs of a second update, or any ramifications for installing it myself, or a flash update.
I’m getting antsy!
Got harassed by my moto-droid all day today to update, figured I would wait to see if there was any feedback either positive or negative… impatience got the best of me so I ran the update anyway, here’s what I find pros and cons: NO flash, (still); 5 desktops instead of 3, (not bad); touch screen sensitivity a little crappier (wtf); messaging color layout sucks now (fail); camera loads MUCH faster and has easier access to settings (happy about this); new google search widget on home screen is slower ( ,,|,,); new application / phone / browser launcher (cool); browser rotates any direction with screen closed (cool); audio player loads much faster as well (score); . . Hopefully some of the annoying things will be fixed, like FRIGGIN flash already. Gotta root this thing!
I got my Froyo update early in the morning on the 16th for my Droid. I haven’t seen any great differences in speed either slower or faster generally, but the browser does seem perkier. I like how things have been re-arranged with the Menu Bar and of course the Camera.
I dunno if a second update will come anytime soon, and to be honest if it’s only to install Flash, I don’t see a reason to wait. So I found the .apk of v 10.1.92.8 (the nexus one release) and installed it. After playing around with it for several days I am impressed with it but not wowed.
Battery life with Flash installed takes a serious nose dive. Even with only 2.2 installed I would typically only use 30-40% of the battery during the day. Yesterday I had nearly completely drained my battery and had to fully recharge it by mid afternoon.
Flash has it’s own issues always being on top. Several sites that use flash became problematic as I couldn’t select menu links because they were under the ‘invisible’ flash window. Videos seems to play almost 50% slower than they did when not having flash installed. I tested this to be certain by uninstalling Flash and then re-installing it.
It’s definitely a nice addition. Just don’t expect perfection. At least not yet. Maybe a dedicated Flash apk for droid will resolve some of the problems I saw.
Sounds like the above comment was an update to FRG01(B), not FRG22.
I manually installed FRG01B from the Google link (not rooted). I can pretty much agree with the above post in all regards, except that I like the new messaging color layout, and Flash 10.1 is available as a beta outside of the Android Market. Also, I’ve experienced and heard of a few issues with WiFi if using a hidden SSID, but that can be solved by various free or paid apps on the marketplace (no root required).
The touch screen sensitivity, if you’re referring to the home screens not responding to some swipes, is a problem having to do with the garbage collector, I think. When using adb, attempting to swipe the first time (if it doesn’t work) usually results in a whole bunch of objects being disposed of (on the order of hundreds). Since garbage collection can be slow, I can see why that would cause the lag.
On the topic of FRG22…does anyone even bother calling VZ? I just called, seems as if they don’t have an estimated ETA on FRG22. When I said ‘update’ referring to Froyo in general, the woman helping me said that they weren’t even done rolling out FRG01(B), and that she had no idea about FRG22. Granted, I’m not sure how well-versed she is with Android, but she did search the system.
If you’re interested in downloading FRG22, and you’re rooted or willing to root your device, there are various links for your perusal at droid-life.com . I hear that it solves the WiFi problem, as well as makes the phone slightly faster, though the latter may be due to the placebo effect. As for me, I’m waiting for a link on a Google server that doesn’t require root access.
I received my froyo update earlier this morning, and my motorola droid (original) has been running worse than it has ever been! The new update looks great and all, especially since it added 2 more screens to put apps on (instead of the usual three), but I can’t even open my settings application. Everytime I try to open it, text appears saying “application is not installed on your phone”. How the hell is the settings application not installed on my phone, that’s the most important app there is! Even worse, I can’t even find the settings application on the scrolling list of applications. The app market is so slow, and everytime I try to search for an app, an “attention box” appears saying “a server error has occurred…retry or cancel and return to the previous screen”. Furthermore, my widget application isn’t opening, and if I click back on the menu button, the screen goes blank (except for the wallpaper) for about 3 seconds until everything reappears again.
I really regret downloading this “froyo update”, more like a bad virus to me…maybe it just takes a while for the original droid to get used to the update, or maybe this is why verizon said they need to do a post update within the next few weeks. Either way, it’s pretty disappointing.
My Motorola Droid got the over the air update on Aug 18… my wife has the HTC incredible and as of this evening (aug 25) we have not seen any froyo coffee her yet.
I like the update on my Droid but was expecting flash by now… I make Droid tutorials and wanted to give info out on flash but now me thinks I’ll make the tutorial without flash :-(
I am also having problems. Ever since the latest update I can not open the settings menu. The icon is there when I hit the menu button, but it does not show up in my list. Of applications. Please advise.
I just purchased a T-Mobile Comet phone with Droid 2.2 and can not run website with flash on it. Downloaded the apk like instructed by many blogs (is not available in the market) from the internet and tried to install it but it says: Application not installed.
can you help?
thanks
