New Verizon iPad FiOS Live TV App Coming Soon; AT&T Still Taking It Lightly?

Verizon Takes It to the Next Level, Prepares to Bring Live TV on the iPad

Are Verizon and Apple getting friendlier and friendlier all of a sudden? Is AT&T cool with everything? We already know that AT&T claims a Verizon iPhone will not hurt its business, but what about a Verizon iPad? Well, okay, it’s not a Verizon iPad but some Verizon iPad features coming soon, which should raise some flags in the Whitacre Tower.

And we’re not talking about any app either but a Verizon iPad Live TV offer that could attract plenty of customers to the other site. I mean, sure, Verizon is not going to offer iPad plans (yet) or anything like that, but it’s going to offer AT&T subscribers a glimpse of what else is available on the other side.

On the other hand the treat/threat is not that great considering that some iPad owners are already Verizon FiOS customers and not everyone sees the tablet as an AT&T-bound device, especially the Wi-Fi versions. Nevertheless, Verizon is making an important move here, and AT&T doesn’t look like it can oppose it in any way.

Apple will probably give its okay for the application considering that FiOS Live TV brings even more content to the iPad, and thus one more selling pitch, but also because Verizon is one of the upcoming Apple partners in the iOS universe. (And yes, we know, there’s one other FiOS app in the App Store right now, but not the one we’re talking about today!)

Speaking about Wi-Fi, the app is going to work only over Wi-Fi for now, and I guess it would be outrageous to even think that AT&T will let Verizon use its 3G network for Live TV iPad video streaming. But eventually things might change, especially if Verizon is going to develop iPhone data plans and, why not, iPad 3G data plans at a certain point in the future.

Moreover the app will probably not be exclusive to the iPad, nor should it be, and, considering the plethora of tablets and connected devices coming in the near future, we can only expect Verizon’s Live TV offers to grow more in the following months/years.

What about you? Are you particularly excited by Verizon’s iPad Live TV offer?
