Avoiding Netflix on iPhone & iPad, HBO Go Is Coming Next on Its Own
The Netflix video streaming application is a hit with iPhone and iPad users but don’t be surprised if not everyone will be thrilled about it. In fact it looks like HBO is not willing to partner with the popular on-demand movie provider and wants to make it on its own in the iOS environment.

In a recent Bloomberg interview, Eric Kessler, HBO’s co-president said that “there’s value in exclusivity” and we’ll not argue there. On the other hand Netflix is not going to wait for HBO to change its mind on the deal and it looks like Netflix customers will be able to stream movies from EPIX instead, which happens to be one of HBO’s archenemies.
HBO will reinvent its HBO Go streaming service and make it compatible not only with iOS devices, even if the iPad and iPhone will probably get it earlier, but to other mobile devices too. HBO Go is a similar platform to Hulu so you probably won’t have problems adjusting to it. But mobile subscribers won’t have to be paying for HBO content, and will be able to access it free of charge in the near future.
By free of charge we assume that ads will be present to make up some revenue streams for HBO. And by near future we mean the following six months, which is when HBO Go for iPad and iPhone should land. Naturally we don’t have all the official details but we’ll be back with all the hot stuff once HBO makes it available.
So if you’ll want to watch True Blood while on the go or check some of the latest movies from a bunch of studios out there (Warner Bros., Twentieth Century, Fox and Universal Pictures) then HBO Go will be the way to go (pun intended) and you’ll have to use Netflix for other various entertainment alternatives.
