Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Pre-Orders Available at Radio Shack

The Shack Pre-Sells the Samsung Epic 4G for the Same Obnoxious Price: $249.99 on Contract

The Samsung Epic 4G is the best of the four Galaxy S flavors available in the USA since it does have a few extra features like 4G connectivity, Mobile Hotspot support, full QWERTY keyboard or front-facing camera. And while the phone is going to be available from official Sprint channels on August 31, that doesn’t mean you have to order it from a Sprint store.

The Samsung Epic 4G is now available for pre-order at Radio Shack but you’d have to hurry to get in on the offer as The Shack will only have a limited number of pre-orders for the Samsung Epic 4G. Eligible Radio Shack customers can reserve their Epic 4G from The Shack starting today and all they have to do to reserve their unit is to purchase a $50 gift card that will count towards the purchase price when the phone hits stores.

Speaking about the price, I was really surprised to see Sprint announce an obnoxious price for the Galaxy S. The phone’s extra features don’t deserve an extra $50 in my book especially since a customer will be hit with a mail-in rebate and various extra monthly fees for 4G support and Mobile Hotspot feature.

After all Sprint’s 4G network is not nationwide which means that not all Epic 4G customers will be able to take advantage of the Premium Data speeds. Furthermore, video calls and mobile hotspot capabilities don’t deserve an extra $50 and neither does the full QWERTY keyboard. So why charge extra for a phone that’s very similar to the Captivate and Vibrant, which are sold for $199.99? Yes, the Epic 4G is the better Galaxy S version out there, but it has no features that can explain a $50 bump in pricing.

And let’s not forget that the Motorola Droid 2 is out right now, and considering the great sales performance of its predecessor, the original Droid, we can expect Verizon to sell it like hot cakes. The Droid 2 offers too a full QWERTY keyboard but costs just $199.99 so maybe you’d be better off checking the Verizon instead.

Those of you still on track for a Samsung Epic 4G purchase, don’t forget about The Shack’s offer and also remember that the same stores will also sell you the AT&T Captivate and the T-Mobile Vibrant Galaxy S models too.

      Really, this is so stupid…

This is just a blog to promo Verizon service lol…

Yes I think the Epic is well worth the 50 bucks more…

The author needs to grow up

    2. Tim says:

The problem with Verizon is that their plans are much more expensive and limited than Sprint’s. So I can pay $50 extra for Sprint’s phone or $480 extra ($20+ per month over two years) for Verizon’s plan. Going to have to go with Sprint, despite the obnoxious phone price.

@Rich: This just in from the author: “I did grow up a long time ago”. Seriously speaking though, this isn’t a blog that promotes Verizon I wonder how do you get that impression. I am only comparing obvious details. Notice how I pointed you guys to the Vibrant or Captivate, but didn’t tell you to wait for the Fascinate to come out. That would have been a pro-Verizon attitude don’t you think?

IMO… 4G capable, adding a flash, and keyboard are well worth $50. Hell, when HTC sold the Touch Diamond it was $50 less than the Touch Pro…so not sure why such the surprise. As the above poster said, getting the Galaxy S on any other carrier will cost a lot more during the 2 year agreement.
