Sprint Samsung Epic 4G & Sprint HTC EVO 4G Get Compared on Video… by Sprint

Sprint Pits the Samsung Epic 4G Against the HTC EVO 4G; Who Will Win?]

The Samsung Epic 4G, a Galaxy S flavor made for Sprint, is coming soon and, since it’s the second 4G-capable Android smartphone coming to Sprint we can only expect people to compare it against the HTC EVO 4G.

But is it a good question for Sprint to perform such a comparison? Isn’t the carrier kind of shooting itself in the foot by putting those two handsets together like that? The HTC EVO 4G is already old news, sorry EVO, but you are. The Droid X has generated far more buzz and probably has more fans already without even being a 4G device. But that’s life in the Android universe; I mean, look at the Droid being discontinued after only 9 months of service. Similarly the Epic 4G will be forgotten once a new device gets launched.

Now, the two-minute video embedded below, shows Sprint emphasizing the qualities of the Samsung Epic 4G over the ones of the EVO 4G. At least that’s my first impression. Sure you may say that Sprint is trying to show off with these two phones and their distinct features, but in reality, the video is all about the Epic 4G. So says Heather from the start as she introduces the “Samsung Epic 4G podcast”, and by the way, I still say Heather seems to be reading from a prompter, which is not very encouraging. I mean, can’t anyone talk freely about these two hot Android devices?

Moving on, I find it ironic how Sprint acknowledges Samsung’s Super-AMOLED display especially when comparing a Samsung and a HTC Android device. We all know HTC went through a drought of Samsung AMOLED displays for some of its hot Android devices while Samsung was piling more panels up for its Galaxy S launch. And what about the fact that the EVO now runs Android 2.2 Froyo while the Epic 4G doesn’t?

And by the way Sprint, saying that the Samsung Epic 4G has three ways of sending messages is a big fat lie there. The virtual keyboard and Swype are basically the same thing, a virtual keyboard.

Leaving aside all these details, I will say that the Samsung Epic 4G is a great phone, and choosing between the Epic and the EVO 4G is going to be hard. But saying that the Epic 4G is the best in the Galaxy S lineup when it comes to entertainment, is an overstatement too. No matter what Galaxy S you end up buying you’re going to have plenty of fun with it.

So what will you choose folks? The Epic 4G or the Captivate, Vibrant or Fascinate? And since you’re making choices, would you go for the Epic 4G or the EVO 4G?

why can’t some people be at least on par with their own tech, if not ahead of it?! I know, I know… that’s asking allot.

The EVO is also DLNA capable. OMG Sprint, really. Do you not know your own devices?
I use my EVO via DLNA daily (’cause I don’t want to pay for a cable to hook it up to my Samsung via HDMI). Sheesh!

Looks like the only selling points here now are a sliding keyboard (dosn’t that typically make it thicker?) and I suppose the smaller AMOLED screen.

The software I’m using to connect via DLNA is the TwonkyServer

Wrong. The capacitive touch screen is an input device, as well as output, but using the touch input in various ‘ways’, is considered ‘more-than-one way’ or ‘multiple’. I have a virtual keyboard, and I do NOT have swype, thus, I only have one WAY to enter text on my virtual keyboard. That device has TWO ways, with the analog keyboard being a THIRD way.

I agreed with this entire article, except for that one paragraph – excellent views, and superbly written, I must say. Keep up the good work, we the public love you guys.

Yes, the Epic has only 2 ways of sending text messages; however, the misinformation is worse–the Evo ups the Epic in that it truly has 3 ways (4 by this video’s logic). Touting Android 2.2, it also inputs text with voice by default.
