iOS Update: iOS 4.0.2 & iOS 3.2.2 Out, So Is ultrasn0w 1.1-1 iPhone Unlock Version

Apple Releases New iPhone, iPod touch & iPad iOS Versions; iPhone Dev Team Releases Updated iPhone 4 Unlock Software

Just a little earlier today we warned you that Apple might be rolling out a couple of important iOS updates for the iPhone, the iPod touch and the iPad and it looks like Apple rolled them out already. Coincidentally the iPhone Dev Team also has a new ultrasn0w version that will unlock the iPhone as long as it’s jailbroken.

The new iOS versions are iOS 4.0.2 that’s now available for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touches 2nd- and 3rd-generations and iOS 3.2.2 which is ready to be installed on your iPad. These two iOS updates will not bring you any hot features like FaceTime video calls via email address but will only fix that “security vulnerability associated with viewing malicious PDF files” and therefore block any subsequent jailbreak attempts too.

Like we said in the earlier post, all you have to do to make sure you’ll be able to still jailbreak your iPhone 4 and other iOS devices is to save your SHSH blobs using Cydia, a move that will let you revert back to iPhone 4.0.1 or iPhone 4.0 at any time.

Even if you’re not planning to jailbreak your phone now, or anytime later, it would still be a good idea to save those SHSH blobs since you might want to sell the iPhone you’re using later down the road to someone that needs an unlocked unit.

Speaking about iPhone unlocking, it looks like the iPhone Dev Team has released ultrasn0w 1.1-1 which is available for download/upgrade straight from Cydia. The new unlock version will optimize your current unlock, better battery life and other tweaks and improvements. ultrasn0w 1.1-1 will play nicely with all iPhones out there with baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04. But in order to make it work you’ll need to jailbreak the device first.

So now that you know what’s new out there related to your iOS devices, go ahead and make the appropriate changes, but do remember that jailbreaking and unlocking are going to void your warranties.

Maybe they do it so that they don’t have to manage hundreds of individual patch installers, and the user knows that they can jump from, say, 3.0 to 4.0.2 and get all of the updates in between. What bugs me is when an app that’s 500 MB changes something simple like an icon, and you have to re-download the entire 500 MB to get that update.
