Motorola Droid 2 Does Adobe Flash 10.1 & Adobe Is Proud of It

Adobe Shows Flash 10.1 on the Motorola Droid 2; Everyone Gets the Point

The Motorola Droid 2 has just been made official today and we were surprised there wasn’t any grandiose press event filled with CEOs from companies like Motorola, Google, Verizon or Adobe to tell us how great the Droid 2 is and what amazing stuff it’s capable of.

On the other hand the full press release, which we shared with you earlier today, covered everything needed to be said about the Droid 2, and it basically confirmed everything we knew about the device from various rumors and leaks. So there’s no point holding a boring press release to announce stuff that everyone is already suspecting, is there? I’m not saying the Droid 2 isn’t a great device, far from it, actually, just making a point about Adobe.

So here’s my point: despite the fact that the Droid 2 didn’t get a glamorous press event, and despite the fact the press release did mention Adobe’s Flash 10.1 support for the Droid 2, the company decided to make it clear to everybody that the Droid 2 can do Flash 10.1, unlike other smartphones out there. And they have a video demo of Flash 10.1 in action on the Droid 2 (by the way, why is that lady frowning all the time?) available at the via link below.

Yes, it’s August, and Flash is finally available for an Android smartphone from the moment you purchase it in store. Better late then never, right? I’m not going to pass on judgment on the way Adobe does its business, nor will I come up with any Thoughts on Flash, but I bet there are plenty of people that have been waiting for a while for Flash 10.1 to come installed right out of the box on plenty of mobile devices.

Of course it’s not really Adobe’s fault that Froyo updates have arrived or will arrive later then expected, is it? As you know the Motorola Droid 2 comes with Android 2.2 on board and, hence, Adobe’s Flash 10.1 is also available right away. But then, why do we hear rumors saying that the Motorola Droid will get Flash 10.1 only on August 18?

So we’ll be looking forward to see how Flash 10.1 performs on these smart Android handsets, since it will be very interesting to see whether users are happy with the full Internet while mobile or they’d rather have an iOS-like experience instead. We’re all the more interested to see if users will appreciate Flash or not since we’re still waiting to see how Apple will defend itself for not supporting Flash on its mobile devices. By the way are people still investigating that?

Sorry if I missed the point (I’m nursing a cold so it’s quite likely), but it sounds like the point of this blogpost is that you thought some other blogpost wasn’t necessary, is that it?

    2. Chris Smith says:

An actual press release about Flash on Droid 2 and overall Flash performance on Android phone details (that could kick the competition in the nuts might I add) would have been more interesting. Also more details about Flash on other mobile devices would have come in handy too. But to simply tell us that the Droid 2 is coming with Flash support out of the box… well, Verizon did that in their official announcement. And everyone that’s truly interested in Froyo handsets already knows Flash support is included. Anyone who doesn’t care if their device runs 1.6, 2.1 or 2.2 will probably not care about Flash either. So why make just a simple video showing Flash on Droid2? Motorola could have done that since they have already released lots of YouTube “how to” videos related to the Droid 2.
