Dell Streak Gets Official Date, Pricing

After Long Speculation, Streak Coming August 13rd, $299 On Two-Year Deal With AT&T

Earlier today, we were wondering when the Android tablet/phone Dell Streak would be arriving in the United States – and what it’s pricing would be. Dell has been quiet on the issue, but now we know. It’s coming August 13th for $299 on a two-year AT&T contract. For those buying the phone/tablet without a contract, it’ll set you back $550.

Those who signed up for the pre-order mailing list will be allowed to purchase the Streak early, on August 12th. In addition to being able to order it early, they’ll also get free two-day shipping as well as get a Bluetooth headset for just $0.99.

The press release is noticeably quiet regarding the operating system, which all but confirms that the Streak is sticking with its Android 1.6, although potential Streak buyers should note that Dell has promised that it’ll be getting an update to something newer sometime.

Honestly, I had though this would be an interesting Android tablet – possibly an Android alternative to the iPad. However, somewhere between its unveiling to now, it’s gone from an Android tablet that can (oh hey) make calls to being a huge phone. It’s being sold by AT&T with a voice plan and everybody seems to be predominately referring to it as a phone.

Regardless, it’s still a huge device and could be a great Android phone/tablet. You should keep your eyes peeled for one around August 13th.
