AT&T Releases U-Verse Mobile 2.0 For iPhone
If you go back a decade or two, the thought of being able to watch virtually whatever you want in the palm of your hand would seem quite ridiculous. However, thanks to high powered handsets coupled with high speed mobile broadband from various wireless carriers, what once seemed ridiculous is now second nature. Not only do we have dedicated applications from Netflix on the iPad and soon the iPhone and Android, but YouTube coupled with the countless video providing websites out there make it incredibly simple to watch virtually what ever your heart desires.

AT&T is looking to break into the same market space – and they are no stranger to video content. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that AT&T has provided a cable TV service dubbed U-Verse that takes the classic channel’s we’ve come to know and love and puts a spin on them adding in several features like the ability to view sports brackets, quickly check the weather and much more.
While the service hasn’t gotten the best reviews, AT&T has announced that htey will be pushing some of that functionality over to the iPhone with their recently released U-Verse Mobile 2.0 application.
First and foremost, U-verse Mobile 2.0 allows consumers to schedule their DVR on the go making it easy to never miss your favorite show but that’s only the beginning. Other than an updated user interface, favorite channels list, AT&T will allow iPhone users to download a limited selection of content straight to their mobile phone. Unfortunately, limited selection means only what AT&T will allow you to watch making it impossible to transfer prerecorded DVR content to the device (bummer).
Another thing that may tick some users off is the fact that AT&T has made the content downloading feature available over 3G – but that’s nothing a little bit of jailbreaking can’t fix now is it.
Any U-verse subscribers out there give this app a go? If so, let us know how it went.
