The LG Ally Will Receive Android 2.2
Despite a big marketing campaign and an Iron Man 2 tie-in, the LG Ally wasn’t well received. That may change, as it’s been confirmed that LG will be providing the Android 2.2 update for the smartphone.

The LG Ally recently got an OTA update. However, it didn’t have Android 2.2. But, LG confirmed to website Phonedog that the LG Ally will be getting the Froyo update, bringing the WiFi and USB tethering, performance upgrades, and all the other wonderful features. According to reviews from both the press and those that reviewed the phone the phone easily became bogged down and sluggish. Hopefully – the new performance increases in Froyo will help the phone.
The LG Ally is currently Verizon’s cheapest Android offering at $50 (though many outlets are selling the Droid at $20 or less – FYI). If the often gets a well-needed upgrade to Froyo, then it could be a real steal at $50.
Here are the specs:
- 600MHz processor
- 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM
- Android 2.1 with LG Themes UI
- 3.2-inch screen
LG didn’t confirm to Phonedog as to when they could expect the Android 2.2 update, but it’s definitely coming. Straight from the source.
