Huawei U8100 Android Smartphone Coming To Canadian Mobile Carrier Wind

Wind Announces Huawei U8100 With Android 2.1, Priced Contract Free At $160

And the Android expansion in Canada continues, one of the latest carriers to announce something Android flavored is Wind Mobile. The handset is the Huawei U8100 and while it may not be a super high-end device it should make a nice contract free offering.

To begin with, the Huawei U8100 smartphone is currently available with a $160 price tag. And before anyone has anytime to think how expensive that sounds, lets remember that this comes without any agreement, which as we know in Canada, tends to be three years.

With price aside, the Huawei U8100 features a 2.8 inch QVGA (240 x 320) touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM Radio, accelerometer, microSD card slot, 1150 mAh battery and is running Android 2.1. You can also expect to find Facebook integration and full support for the Android Market along with Google apps such as Maps, Gmail, Search and YouTube pre-installed.

Other than the purchase price, those interested will need to pick a voice plan which can be either $15, $35 or $45 per month depending on the level of minutes and messages you need. That and, a data plan which will set you back anywhere from as low as $5 up to $35 per month for the Infinite Mobile plan. And the nice part with the Infinite Mobile plan is that it lists the ability to not only make Skype calls but also tether your phone and share the data with your notebook.

In the end, the Huawei U8100 may not be quite the same as compared to other Android phones such as the Captivate or Vibrant, but there is something about being able to spend a reasonable amount of money and not have to worry about contracts. Plus, on some level I am jealous, but that is likely due to the fact that I am currently paying two cell phone bills every month and have two contracts.
