Solar Powered Wireless Webcam Spotted
Nothing comes close to getting a wireless device that also has sustainable power via sunlight. This is what the Solar Powered Wireless Webcam from Iain Barclay is all about, also known as the FieldCam.
As you have perhaps already figured out, this is a webcam that offers no more problems as far as wires are concerned and also how it can get power to operate.
The Fieldcam is composed mainly of a 3G cellular phone dongle and router, and a custom circuit board.
The only thing is that this webcam needs to be exposed to direct sunlight for it to charge up and snap photos every 5 minutes. Once stored, the photos are uploaded to Flickr.
It costs around 10 British Pounds for the 3G cellular data collection SIM card to make it all work.
As far as the total cost of the whole setup, nothing official was mentioned. But a rough and safe estimate would peg it at around 200 British Pounds.
The Solar Powered Wireless Webcam may be a great DIY project. Of course some minimal geekiness may be needed.
However, when you are done, expect an eco-friendly and functional masterpiece to fulfill all your photo capturing needs.
