Motorola Droid Getting Android 2.2 Next Week [Motorola Droid Getting Latest Version of Android, 2.2, Starting Next Week]
With each recurring release of Google’s Android mobile operating system comes a whole slew of new features. The open source operating system first launched back in 2007 as Android 1.0 with the release of the T-Mobile G1. At the time it wasn’t a very full featured mobile operating system but it did show immense potential especially thanks to the fact that it open source allowing the community to update and upgrade the operating system on their own.

However, the only problem with Google’s Android mobile operating is the slow roll out that carriers have had with the software. If you’ll remember, the chart we showed you not too long ago of Android market share let u know that just about 50% of Android powered devices were running version 2.1. However, it showed that only about 3.3% of devices were running Froyo, the latest version of Android.
As I said before, this can be blamed on major handset manufacturers like HTC and Motorola delaying their releases of Android 2.2 Froyo in order to get things like the Sense UI and MOTO Blur developed properly for the new version.
Luckily, the time of official roll outs is growing ever closer with various manufacturers announcing that they will be releasing the Android 2.2 across their lineup of handsets at some point in the near future. Today, it was announced that Motorola will be releasing the Android 2.2 update for their popular Droid handset starting next week.
There isn’t much else Motorola has decided to announce on top of the fact that Android 2.2 will be released tomorrow so many have speculated that Motorola rushed things to compete with Sprint’s announcement that the EVO 4G would be getting upgraded to Android 2.2.
If you’re not familiar with Android 2.2 it will bring with it performance and speed improvements to the operating system, a faster and more powerful web browser and some new enterprising capabilities.
