Android 2.2 Update Now Available To Download For HTC EVO 4G
Earlier today we let you know that Sprint has recently come forth to announce that the Android 2.2 update would be available for HTC EVO 4G sometime early next month. Not long after that we let you know that the same update would be available for the Motorola Droid on Verizon starting sometime next week. This had Android hopefuls jumping for joy and anxiously awaiting the update as the much anticipated speed improvements for both the operating system and web browser.

However, if you’re really sick of waiting of waiting for the Android 2.2 update, recent reports have let us know that it’s now available via a direct download, straight from HTC.
Apparently, all you need to do is head here, grab the download and save it to the root of your EVO 4G’s SD card. Once the file is transferred, just boot the device in recovery mode and you will be given an option to install the update from the .zip file. This will give you all of the highly anticipated features, ahead of the OTA launch, that were mentioned above.
Make note, if you decide to do utilize this method of updating your device you need to remember that you’re doing so at your own risk as it is not the HTC endorsed method of doing so. In fact, HTC has recently took to Twitter to Tweet the following message:
Please be aware any update.zip floating around for EVO are not final and may cause problems. Official updates are coming OTA next week!
Like we just told you today, the update should be available in the beginning of next month and considering August is just a few days away, you don’t have too long to wait if you decide to go the normal route.
Update: Unfortunately HTC has pulled the update file from their website which means you’ll probably have to take to Google to find it yourself. With a bitch of searching, it can’t be too hard.
