Samsung X Series Laptops Get Core i3 Boost
The good news is, Samsung is tricking out a series of laptops, the delightfully enigmatic X Series, with Intel Core i3 ULV (ultra low voltage) processors. The bad news is, for at least right now, two of them will only hit Korea.
First out of the gate is the X180, an 11.6 inch laptop with the aforementioned Core i3, along with three gigs of DDR3 memory and a 320 gig hard drive, plus all the other bells and whistles of its immediate predecessor, the X170.
The 14 inch X430, meanwhile, actually carries significant upgrades from the X420, including GeForce 310M graphics, which is a pretty big deal.
Both the X180 and the X420, interestingly enough, report lower battery life than their predecessors, which isn’t really surprising considering the extra punch they pack (bigger rides take more fuel–just ask anyone who owns a Hummer), but nine hours of battery life is hardly a bad deal.
And there’s one more addition to the X series, a netbook packing a 1.7 GHz Athlon II Neo K125, three gigs of memory, 320 gig hard drive and a five hour battery called the Samsung X125 (pictured above).
No pricing data is out on the X180 and the X430 yet, but the word is that the X125 will be landing in Europe directly for about $647 US, which is a bit of a letdown given the specs.
