Samsung Cetus SGH-i917 Windows Phone 7 Handset Gets Mentioned [First WP7 Samsung Smartphone to be the Cetus?]

The name of the first Samsung Windows Phone 7 smartphone has been discovered and we have the first official details about a device that’s probably going to be one of the flagship phones of Samsung Mobile, right along the Samsung Galaxy S. The name of this first WP7-running device is Cetus and we’ll look forward for the Korean Manufacturer to launch it.

Also known as the SGH-i917, the handset has been discovered over at Bluetooth SIG and we happen to have a few specs and features for you. The Cetus will offer you a 4-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 800 x 480 resolution, 5-megapixel camera, secondary VGA video call camera, stereo FM radio, GPS, Bluetooth technology, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and microUSB 2.0.

Other features include threaded SMS, MMS support, email, instant messaging, HTML and the Internet Explorer mobile browser, or otherwise everything you’d expect from a mobile smartphone, especially one that comes with Microsoft’s new mobile platform on.

We have no pictures of the Cetus yet, but from the looks of it this appears to be a Chassis 1 Windows Phone 7 handset. From what we know so far the Cetus seems pretty similar to the Galaxy S. Only it runs Windows Phone 7 and has three buttons under the touchscreen display.

A few days ago we’ve seen videos of a Samsung prototype WP7 phone sent to developers and some members of the media to test WP7 apps on them and showcase Microsoft’s new mobile platform to the world. Can we assume that’s the Cetus? Or does Samsung have a few surprises for the masses?

It’s too early to tell when Samsung will launch this baby, but we’ll be here waiting for it. Unlike the Galaxy S, which was mentioned a few months before being actually released, the Cetus will probably hit stores a lot faster after the initial announcement. Again, this is just speculation for the time being so bear with us until the phone does become official.
