Redbox Begins Blu-Ray Rentals At $1.50 Per Night
The content consuming world has steadily been making a move towards streaming as it is obviously an easier alternative to actually leaving your house and grabbing a physical copy at the local video rental store. This shift in content delivery has put companies like Blockbuster on the rocks with many speculating that the video rental giant may cease to exist if their digital distribution platform fails to take off.

One company, however, has been able to really set itself apart from the rest and show the world that physical rentals are still the hip thing to do. If you’re not familiar with Redbox it is essentially a movie vending machine. You may find them at your local gas stations, popular supermarket chains and more. All you need to do to rent a video from a Red Box is select a movie, swipe your card and you’re good to go. Just pay $1 per night that you decide to keep the movie out for – it’s really that simple.
Unfortunately, the current Redbox kiosks around the country only feature the ability to rent out DVDs. This leads a whole marketplace open for video game or high definition vending machines. Unfortunately, the chances of us seeing a video game vending machine renting out titles at $1 per night but on the bright side of things, Redbox is making the shift towards high definition video.
In fact, it was recently made known that Redbox will now be taking Blu-ray rentals nation wide giving the ability to around 13,300 kiosks. Additionally, Redbox hopes to expand their Blu-ray renting operations to all 26,000 of their locations by the end of this fall. What’s great about this is the fact that Redbox will be allowing you to rent Blu-rays for just $1.50 a night – not much of a premium over their standard definition counterparts.
Has anyone run into any Blu-ray touting Redbox kiosks? If so, let us know in the comments.
