NetJets Set To Add Aircell To Flights
NetJets is actually a pretty interesting idea, if you travel in the right circles–see, with NetJets, you can buy a private jet on a time-share basis that you can have ready for travel with a few hours’ notice. And the part of this that means much to us is that they’re looking to install AirCell WiFi service in fully 250 of their planes.
Aircell, you’ll remember, is the company that’s been putting a lot of wireless capability onto commercial aircraft. And sure, when you’ve got two, three hundred folks wanting internet access on a cross-country flight, it makes a lot of sense to put this on board. But NetJets’ service is so specialized, some thought it unnecessary.
NetJets disagreed.
The word is that the service will be free of charge to all fractional jet owners (people who own the time-shared planes), and the NetJets purchase of Aircell tech represents the single largest such purchase in business aviation to date. So if you’ve got the cash to get yourself part of a private jet, you can rest easy knowing you’ll be able to watch funny YouTube videos during the whole flight.
