HTC Confirms Android 2.2 For European HTC Desires

Euro HTC Desire Owners To Get Froyo Update 'This Weekend'

It was rumored and then hinted at by HTC’s official Twitter account, but now it’s been made official. European HTC Desire owners will be getting the Android 2.2 Froyo update sometime ‘this weekend’.

Even though HTC is promising the update for everybody in Europe, tech-site Engadget is reporting that it will only be applying to unlocked free HTC Desires that aren’t carrier-locked. Remember that the HTC Desire is the Nexus One without the Google branding, save for a few small changes.

HTC Desire users are going to be getting a little extra out of this Android 2.2 update. You’ll be able to record video in 720p (albeit, only 24fps) and you’ll be able to use iTunes to sync your music to the phone. In addition, you’ll have the regular benefits of Android 2.2, including full Flash support and faster hardware due to some improvements in the JavaScript engine and other places.

The AppShare widget is also being included, which lets you invite friends (via Facebook, Twitter, all the places) to try any app included on the Android Market. Yes, that’s right, another tool for spamming your friends. I’m sure they’ll love your suggestions.

Euro HTC Desire owners should see their phone tell them that an OTA update is available sometime this weekend, per above.
