BlackBerry BlackPad Tablet to Fight the iPad Starting With November?

BlackPad Apparently Confirmed for a November Release, these Holidays Sound Very Exciting in the Tablet World

Yesterday we learned that RIM has purchased the BlackPad.com domain and now we hear that the first tablet coming out of RIM factories should hit stores at some point in November. Considering that we just told you the Samsung Galaxy Tab is coming in Q3 2010 and the Motorola tablet is also scheduled to arrive this November, this year’s holiday season looks more and more interesting.

The news comes from Bloomberg and it’s based on some inside information coming from unidentified sources, as always. The device will apparently come with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support and that’s how users will connect to the Internet. Those BlackPad customers that already own BlackBerry smartphones will be able to use the handsets’ 3G data plans to go online, which is something we’ve heard a long time ago, so no surprise there.

The BlackPad is meant to fight the iPad, and the plethora of Android tablets that are going to be available in the near future. But RIM is going to get involved in the tablet market a little too late, just like everyone else actually, and Apple will certainly have the advantage when it comes to mindshare and marketshare.

Not only that, but assuming that any of these devices will turn out to be an iPad-killer, that might not last that long considering that, the way Apple works, an Apple iPad refresh will be just around the corner after this holiday season. Last year Apple introduced the first iPad at the end of January, and we expect Cupertino to make the iPad 2G (generation) public around the same time next year.

It will be interesting to see what kind of tablets customers will purchase this holiday season while knowing that Apple’s next iPad will be arriving thereafter. Let’s hear it from iPad haters out there! What tablet have you set your sights on? You’ll have to choose from Android, BlackBerry OS, Windows 7 and possible webOS. As for manufacturers, there are a lots of unannounced tablets to be considered this winter and they’ll be available from Motorola, Samsung, LG, RIM, HP and others.

    1. BlackPad says:

Apple and Google have shown no great aptitude in creating enterprise collaboration tools (Apple isn’t interested in system integrators and Google Wave hasn’t taken off yet). RIM are already seen as the best choice for supporting people’s work activities. While Microsoft are stumbling and planning to extend an MP3 player interface to that of a mobile general-purpose computing device (WP7), the way is clear for RIM to take over the second largest quadrant.
