Barnes & Noble Expanding In-Store Nook Displays For Better Hands On Experience ["Full-Service eReading Nook Boutiques" Coming To Barnes & Noble Retail Locations]
Barnes & Noble has announced plans to expand the in store display areas for the Nook. The newly designed spots will be 1,000 square foot and not only have multiple Nook ereaders on display, but also feature some of the available accessories.

And just like that, Barnes & Noble seem to have realized they have a good way to possibly get ahead in this war — use their stores and the current foot traffic. After all, looking at the above image, it seems fairly likely to assume that customers will walk through those tables and in turn get curious and pick up a Nook.
The details are coming by way of an official press release, which ever so nicely describes these areas a “full-service eReading NOOK Boutiques” which will allow them to “accommodate this rapidly growing segment of Barnes & Noble’s business.”
While that may be a fancy sounding description, what is sounds like to me is that customers will actually be able to get up close and personal with the Nook before committing to a purchase. And to be fair to others such as the Kindle, they are in retail stores — Target. But just being in the store is not likely to help, especially if they are not on display or worse, behind a glass enclosure.
As for what these boutiques will have to show off, multiple Nook readers as well as a large flat panel wall display with video demos and “more than 100 accessories.” Who realized the Nook has over 100 accessories available? Furthermore, Barnes & Noble offers some in store features with the Nook such as Read in Store and More in Store which allow the customer to browse books on a Nook and also get exclusive content and special promotions.
Interestingly enough, Barnes & Noble stated that majority of the Nook sales have taken place in store.
