AMD Now Leading in Discrete GPUs from NVIDIA

AMD Reports That They Now Lead The Market For Discrete GPUs

AMD is now finally reaping the dividends of buying ATI as their discrete GPUs segment, overtaking erstwhile leader NVIDIA. AMD now holds 51.1% of the discrete GPU market, thanks mainly to a growth of 10.4 points from the second quarter of 2009.

AMD had taken the initial blows, being criticized for buying ATI back in 2006 and experiencing poor profits in the initial years. And now all that has changed. After four years, AMD has long waited for this day, overtaking NVIDIA as the market leader.

As for NVIDIA, the margin that AMD now enjoys is exactly what they had lost. Aside from that, AMD also has a 56.3%of the mobile discrete GPU market, contributing to the success that AMD has obviously been enjoying.

But while all that is official, NVIDIA is expected to make a rebound. For sure they are going to make some adjustments and for sure AMD cannot sit back and take it easy.

Climbing to the top is one thing but maintaining your market lead or share is another.
