UK Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Froyo Update Scheduled for September, Like in France

Galaxy S Froyo Update Announced for a New Country, September Seems to be a Popular Android 2.2 Month for Samsung

Just earlier today we heard that the HTC EVO 4G will get the Android 2.2 Froyo update starting with August 1, but that’s not the only hot smartphone that’s going to get Froyo in the following months. Motorola, HTC and Samsung are all busy working on updating their flagship phones to Google’s latest version of Android.

Brits should be happy to hear that their Samsung Galaxy S handset will get Android 2.2 in September. It’s a little later than some of the competition’s Android smartphones but it lines up with the French Froyo update for the same Samsung device.

The news comes from Samsung’s official UK Twitter account, so we take it pretty seriously. Apparently Android 2.2 is currently in development for the UK Galaxy S and will be deployed at some point in September hopefully a little earlier than what the tweet here says.

Those of you interested in running a Froyo ROM version on their Galaxy S can do so already if you can find it around the Internets (okay, here it is so you don’t have to look for it). We also have a video that will show you how the international version of the Galaxy S looks running Froyo, but Captivate and Vibrant owners should wait a little longer as this version right here is apparently not compatible with their devices.

I don’t have to remind you, bold Android entrepreneurs, to handle everything with care, do I? You know, since this one isn’t the actual, final Android 2.2 version for the Galaxy S but rather a test firmware version so things might not go so smoothly.

We’ll forget for a second that French and UK Samsung Galaxy S owners are getting Android 2.2 Froyo in September to wonder when T-Mobile and AT&T customers will be blessed with a similar upgrade. Hopefully Samsung USA will also make some similar announcement in the near future so all Galaxy S models in the world will be running the same OS version.
