LG Optimus Z Android Smartphone Officially Announced in Korea

LG Announces Optimus Z Flagship Android Handset, Mentioned Tablet in the Process

This is not the first time we hear about LG’s Optimus Z Android smartphone, which is supposed to be a flagship device for the company, but we’re surprised to see it arrive only in Korea for now.

Maybe that’s what you’re doing wrong LG, you know, not launching the smartphone in multiple markets almost simultaneously like a certain rival of yours. Add to that practice a couple of mediocre smartphones and featurephones, and you’ll get a crappy quarter report, but I digress.

The Optimus Z is LG’s way of showing us it means business when it comes to Android devices. The phone will be available through SK Telecom and KT although no prices are available for now.

Here’s a quick specs and features list for the LG Optimus Z:

  • 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • Android OS 2.1 (Froyo coming by December)
  • 3.5-inch WVGA Hyper HD LCD
  • 800 x 480 resolution
  • T-DMB mobile TV support
  • 5-megapixel camera
  • Dolby Mobile and DivX support
  • Two 1,350mAh batteries
  • New On Screen Phone function (displays phone interface on PC)
  • Bluetooth or USB syncing with PC
  • “100 of the most popular applications in Korea”

Now this baby is coming out today but more Android handsets (although Android might not be exclusive here) are to be announced in the near future. And the Optimus Z will be available in international markets at some point in the future.

The most interesting thing however is the fact that LG is going to launch an LG tablet by the end of the year. The LG tablet will run Android, we’re really rooting for Android 2.2 (pun totally intended), and should be in stores just in time for Christmas. Of course LG will not say anything else about this product as they probably wanted to remind everyone that they too are designing a tablet as we speak, especially after seeing all the Motorola tablet and BlackPad tablet rumors out there these days.

So, anyone interested in the Optimus Z smartphone?
