Unless, the author intended it to be there. The pleasure of reading, especially a novel, is achieved by using ones own imagination. Help from some teckie, not needed not wanted. A touch screen might be a plus. I believe an e-reader should be light, have a screen no larger a paper book page and have the ability to download library books. Some books are not worth purchasing but would be nice to borrow from library, eg: research, text books, how-to book for one item only, etc.

As a book lover, I wouldn’t appreciate any distractions at all popping up on the page I’m reading. He has been proven correct that there is a market for a purpose-built reading device that can stand up to the iPad and similar devices. Increasingly, however, his customers will be teenagers and adults who have spent much of their lives managing emails, multitasking, texting and browsing the web. It is natural to be intrigued by something in a book and want to immediately "learn more". Did that person actually exist? Where is that city located? What do those designer handbags look like? If a fiction chapter contains some hypertexted links, a reader might click on one of them, or all of them. They might even appreciate a video showing a section of London where a fictional serial killer is operating. The future of many books will be in the app category, even fiction. Count on it.

I believe that Jeff Bezos is a great visionary and in this case is both right and wrong.
