HTC EVO 4G Android 2.2 OTA Expected To Arrive August 1st
HTC EVO 4G users may be in for a surprise in the form of Froyo. Assuming the timeline sticks, Sprint is expected to officially announced the Android 2.2 roll-out plans on July 30th (tomorrow) and then have the OTA to begin rolling out two days later on August 1st. In other words, EVO 4G users could be playing with Froyo before the weekend is out.

Of course that is assuming one thing — that Sprint does not delay the timeline that was set forth in these recently leaked documents. And judging from past history in terms of Android updates coming from the carriers — a delay is a likely thing to happen.
That aside though, according to the details this update will be for Android 2.2 along with some other goodies. But before we get into what those may be, lets say this, just because the OTA update is expected to begin on August 1st that does not mean everyone will get it that day. Based on the wording in the documents;
“For a test bed, the new software will be available on client-initiated on Friday afternoon which will give a good sampling before proactively pushing the notification of software available on Tuesday 8/2 (assuming everything goes well)”
And honestly, that last portion seems to be key here — assuming everything goes well. In other words, update early if you want to be a tester. Personally, and not that I am an EVO 4G user, but I would wait until Tuesday to get my update.
Otherwise, those other goodies are expected to arrive in the form of a flashlight mode for the camera’s LED flash, several new preloaded widgets including one for the FM Radio, Profile settings, Ringtone settings and more. In addition you can also expect enhancements in terms of video recording.
There was also mention of a fix, and one that current 4G hotspot users may not like — the addition of “4G MACID Verification Enabled” which is said to “prevent 4G Hotspot usage without the HOTSPOT SOC.” In the meantime, hit up that ‘via’ link below and read the complete document set.
