Wonder if these guys are on the Qi standard? No, it’s entirely too high voltage for that. But the Evatran Plugless Power Station wants to make it as easy as possible to recharge your electric wheels. How easy? Try just parking on it.
See, the Evatran Plugless Power Station basically has you patch in an adapter, roughly the size of a shoebox, I’m told, to the undercarriage of your car, and then parking that adapter right over the station. Then, juice flows wirelessly into the adapter, and from the adapter, into the car.
Further word is that this isn’t exactly an easy process and requires a bit of precision maneuvering, but once you get the hang of itit becomes a whole lot easier than, say, plugging and unplugging things over and over again for the life of your car. And sadly, the Plugless Power Station isn’t that great on efficiency, either–about 20% of the power output isn’t usable, and they’re hoping to improve that to only 10% waste by the release date.
If you’re looking to get one of these, there’s no word yet on pricing, but it should be available April of 2011.
