Panasonic Officially Reveals HDC-SDT750, We Let Them Have Their Victory

Panasonic Entry-Level 3D Camcorder Still To Cost Over $1,000 With Limited Resolutions

Regular readers will know that a few days ago, somebody at Panasonic’s web team leaked the existence of the HDC-SDT750 entry-level 3D camcorder to the whole world. Now, a few days later, Panasonic has released a press release, much to a surprise to the three print journalists who don’t know what’s going on. Aside from confirming the camcorder’s existence, we’ve also gotten some full-size press images, a price and further details.

Somewhat disappointing – the camcorder won’t shoot in 3D HD. Turns out the “3D Silencer” on the front (Panasonic calls it the 3D Conversion Lens) is removable, and the camcorder can act as a regular HD camcorder without it. Without it, the ‘SDT750 will shoot in 1080p at 60fps. With it though, the camcorder is limited to the bizarre resolution of 960 x 1080.

Panasonic has included some video editing software, the HD Writer AE 2.6T, which easily allows for editing of the 3D video and will help you turn it into a movie, upload to the web, or burn it to a DVD/Blu-Ray. As was leaked in the website leak – the camera does use Panasonic’s proprietary 3MOS technology, which is allegedly better than CMOS.

It’s coming this October. The price? It’s expensive – $1,399 is the MSRP listed in the press release. To the camera’s benefit, it also can function as a totally competent regular 1080p video camera. Without having tried this camcorder, I’d say the high price and weird resolution make this a pass for anybody but the earliest adapters.
