Strap on your goofy-looking glasses, folks, because the crew out at Panasonic has another 3D Blu-ray for us to consider, and this time it goes by the name of the DMP-BDT100.
The Panasonic DMP-BDT100 is set to offer, as expected (and as I already gave away in the headline) 3D playback on Blu-ray DVD. However, there’s quite a bit more than that going on here–it’ll also offer playback of regular Blu-ray, as well as upconversion on your regular DVDs, which is never not a good thing.
Even better, it’ll have an Ethernet port and WiFi capability (you’ll need an adapter for that part, though) which will let you stream content online. It also has an SD card slot, USB port and will boot up in about half a second.
That sounds pretty sweet, but here’s the bad news. While we do know it’ll be available this August, we don’t yet know for how much. We can, however, make an inference or two. And realizing that the Panasonic DMP-BDT300 costs right around $399 means we can infer that the scaled-down version, the Panasonic DMP-BDT100, will cost substantially less. How substantially, or if it will even be that substantial in the first place, no one yet knows. But if it’s coming out next month, we shouldn’t be too far from a price.
