Motorola Continues Antennagate; Launches New Ad Touting “No Jacket Required” For The Droid X [Apple Dragged The Droid X Into Antennagate, But Motorola Fires Back With New Droid X Ad]

Motorola has decided not to take a back seat approach to the whole antennagate incident and have fought back with a full page ad in todays issue of the NY Times. And we must say, its an ad that is not only straight to the point but also names features that back up their claims.

The ad comes sporting big bold letters up top which read “No Jacket Required” which can only be thought of as they did not want to say anything along the lines of ‘our Droid X is powerful enough that it does not need any silly bumper.” But aside from me putting words into the mouth of Motorola.

The ad also goes on to highlight some of the nicer features of the Droid X which include the 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, HDMI out, 1GHz processor, 8GB internal storage, 16GB microSD card and 3G Mobile Hotspot capability. Of course, we cannot forget the dual antenna design. And on that last one, it seems Motorola was not fooling around — there is one antenna at the top and one at the bottom. I guess to truly have an antennagate issue with the Droid X you would have to be two handing it.

Otherwise, the ad copy is pretty to the point, reading as follows;

“At Motorola, we believe a customer shouldn’t have to dress up their phone for it to work properly. That’s why the Droid X comes with a dual antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like to make crystal clear calls without a bulky phone jacket. For us it’s just one of those things that comes as a given when you’ve been making mobile phones for over 30 years.”

You cannot really fight back with words alone any better than that. Well played Motorola, well played.

    It’s really great to see Motorola come back with such a great product – and not to allow a competitor make silly statements trying to confuse the situation.
    I love my Droid, and will be picking up my Droid X this week. When I bought my Prius, my husband said it was the car I was born to own. I never thought I would feel that way about a cell phone!
