Cincinnati Bell Getting Motorola XT720 In August [Android's Invasion Of The Regional Carrier Continues, XT720 Brings Its Tumor To Cincinnati Bell's Network]
Sort of deja vu for us here at TFTS. I just wrote about Cellular South offering the Android 2.1 update to the HTC Hero owners on their network. At the end of the article, I waxed poetically about the regional carriers in the United States offering more and more quality Android phones. Speak of the devil, the folks at Cincinnati Bell will soon be offering the Motorola XT720 Android phone on their network.

This deal is actually further along than you’d think. Cincinnati Bell revealed via their Facebook page that they and Motorola have already completed the regulatory testing for the device on their network – and they’re just waiting on Google. Here’s what they wrote:
The Motorola XT720 Milestone is due to launch in Mid-August. All CBW internal testing is complete. Both CBW and Motorola anxiously await Google approval which is the last step in the launch process for this device. We’ll keep you posted when we have more information to share.
The guys at Phandroid report that the Motorola XT720 had already been featured on some Cincinnati Bell support pages and as well as being featured on some mail-in rebate forms. So it really wasn’t a state secret that the phone was coming to Ma (Cinci) Bell, but this is sort of an exciting official reveal.
The Motorola XT720 has mostly been a European Android phone thus far. It features mid-range specs, including a 550MHz processor, so one hopes that Cincinnati Bell prices it accordingly. The “tumor” (as it’s being unlovingly called by the tech crowd) on the lower right edge of the phone is the the biggest point of contention for those who don’t like the phone. I don’t think it looks so bad, but I digress…
