BlackBerry BlackPad iPad Competitor Confirmed by RIM New Website?

RIM Acquires BlackPad.com; Gets Ready for the BlackBerry Tablet]

What better way to confirm that RIM is definitely interested in the tablet market than to see the Canadian-based smartphone manufacturer buy a domain name like this one: BlackPad.com?

The iPad is currently dominating the tablet business for the simple reason that there’s no actual competitor ready to put up a fight against Apple’s first tablet. But everyone is rumored to make an iPad killer at some point this year or in early 2011.

Just recently we’ve heard rumors about Motorola building its own 10-inch tablet running Android 3.0 Gingerbread. The device hasn’t been confirmed and it’s said to hit markets by November 2010.

With today’s news we can only be confident that RIM will also launch its own tablet at some point in the future, but I’m afraid we’ll only see the BlackPad in 2011. RIM has been moving rather slowly this year, as we’re yet to see any hot new BlackBerry smartphone coming to carriers around the world.

The BlackPad.com domain name has apparently been registered all the way back in 2002 even though there was no such product at that time to use that particular name. So it looks like RIM had to purchase the domain from an undisclosed third-party and we can only assume that someone walked out with some cash out of the deal.

RIM didn’t make any official announcement regarding the purchase of BlackPad.com nor did it let any BlackBerry tablet rumors leak at this point. However, this is not the first time we hear that the Canadian manufacturer is interested in developing a tablet that would basically work in conjunction with current BlackBerry smartphones.

We’ll be back with more news about the BlackPad as soon as we get them, but in the mean time let’s focus on the BlackBerry 9800 that’s supposed to finally come out.
