AT&T Looking To Be The "Premier Carrier" In Terms Of Windows Phone 7

AT&T Making Commitments To Windows Phone 7, Lets Just Hope It Proves To Be Better Than What They Have Done With Android

It would appear as if AT&T is looking to go all in with Windows Phone 7. Just about a week ago we heard reports of the carrier wanting 8 million Windows Phone 7 phones for the launch, and now, now they are claiming they want to be the “premier carrier.”

A bold statement, and time will tell how accurate it will end up being. That said, we can only hope that they see more success with Windows Phone 7 as opposed to what they have shown thus far with Android. Granted, they do have a few Android handsets available, but speaking from opinion, they seem to be last in line in terms of Android. But I digress, back to Windows Phone 7.

Basically, at this point this statement seems like early posturing more than anything. It almost feels like AT&T is looking to make the stand and see what happens. Of course, its unlikely that AT&T is going to be an exclusive carrier in terms of Windows Phone 7. After all, if Microsoft really wants to push and succeed on the smartphone front they will need to get these phones into the arms of as many carriers are willing.

Still, as of now we have yet to hear anything solid (official or rumor) in terms of others such as T-Mobile and Verizon. Not to mention Verizon, well after the whole KIN saga, Microsoft may want to leave them off the list. That said, it would also appear as if Verizon has offered a ‘no comment’ as of now.

Bottom line here, as of now no carrier has announced anything official in terms of Windows Phone 7. But looking back to Mobile World Congress, and we remember that Microsoft made mention of all four major US carriers being included. And with that, the launch is still expected for the fall. We look forward to seeing what Microsoft has to offer.
