Kyocera Zio Android Smartphone Gets Promo Page Listing With Cricket
Looking back to late March we saw the leaked 2010 roadmap for Cricket Wireless, and at the time it was showing off the Kyocera Zio smartphone. But just like most leaked roadmaps, the information was not final and at the time it was suggesting a July release and a price of $299.99.

Well, flash forward till today and we are seeing the Kyocera Zio get an official product listing on the Cricket Wireless website. Unfortunately, we are still not being told anything in regards to pricing and a release date. But at the same time its nice to see this listed. Touching back on that price for a moment, we have seen mentions ranging from as low as $249 up to $299.
As for rumors, some have suggested a release date of August 15th. Which all things considered, is pretty close to the original July timeframe. That aside though, the listing on the Cricket website does make mention of some specs as well as an offer to get free overnight shipping once the handset comes available.
As for those specs, the Kyocera Zio will feature a 3.5 inch WVGA touchscreen display, 3G, Wi-Fi, a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording, Stereo Bluetooth, accelerometer, Digital Compass and Android. All things considered, it may not be a high end device, but decent assuming the price is right. The one downfall here comes in regards to Android — the Zio will have 1.6 at launch. Though on a positive note, its expected to go up to Android 2.x at some point in the future.
Otherwise, a perk of going through Cricket is that the phones are all contract free. Sure, that means paying more up front, but think of how nice it will be not having a two year contract. As for plans, Cricket offers an unlimited talk, text and data option.
