Free iPhone 4 Bumpers Now Shipping
As you may of heard, the iPhone 4 loses 90% of its signal strength when you touch it in that special spot. To appease the complaining tech blogs and to protect themselves from the class action lawsuit, Apple is giving away free cases to everybody. If you requested a free bumper case, it’s now shipping.

Those who already purchased a bumper from Apple may receive a refund. Likewise, since Apple “can’t make enough” of the bumper cases, they’ll also be providing some iPhone 4 customers with some third-party cases, free of charge.
Not to beat the “head horse” Antennagate issue, but there is some discussion on the web regarding if Apple knew about the problem early and decided to gamble on their beautiful exposed antenna design at the risk of signal loss. One point of discussion is the fact that Apple was offering the bumper cases from Day 1 of the iPhone 4 being released. The same bumper cases that magically fix the problem.
Apple has dabbled in cases before. Remember the iPod Socks? They also released the surprisingly successful iPad cases. It’s possible that there wasn’t any devious plans behind the bumper cases – and that they were being released following Apple’s success with the iPad cases.
For those who own the iPhone 4, you can sign up for the free cases on Apple’s website.
