Cheap Android 2.1 Phone Coming To France
At this years Mobile World Congress, both Ericsson and Texas Instruments were showing off new SoC and mainboard designs for cheap (sub-$100) Android phones and it looks like we were posed to see a ton of incoming cheap Android phones this and next year. This phone could be the first of them. This is the Orange “Tactile Internet” and it’s an entry-level Android phone from Orange.

It’s branded by Orange. Not sure who makes it – IntoMobile suggests HTC while we believe it was made by Sharp. At any rate, it’s a dirt-cheap Android phone for Frenchmen who want to get in on Android. Orange is only asking €1 for the phone on a contract.
Here are the specs of the Orange “Tactile Internet”:
- 2.8-inch Touchscreen
- 256MB ROM
- 2GB microSD card included
- 3.2MP Camera
- HSDPA, WiFi Connectivity
IntoMobile speculates that this could be a cheap phone to attempt to lure featurephone users into the wonderful world of smartphones. Since Orange is in a ton of European countries, you’ve got to imagine that if the phone does well in France at €1, then they could introduce it to other European markets. Again, no idea who makes it, but it’s not impossible that we could see it pop-up in the United States as the T-Mobile G2 or something.
Does this phone do anything for you? Sound off in the comments.
