Apple Officially Rolls Out AA Battery Charger [Apple Thinking Green, Offers AA Battery Charger, Makes Perfect Accessory For Wireless Keyboard, Mighty Mouse Or Magic Trackpad]
Apple has had quite the busy morning, they have rolled out a new 27 inch LED Cinema Display, a new Mac Pro lineup, an updated iMac and the fabled Magic Trackpad. And while that may seem like a fairly complete list, they did have one smaller item slip in — a AA battery charger.

Sure, some may think, Apple — huh, a AA battery charger? And I must admit that when I first saw the image and product listing I thought the same thing. And then I remembered that I have a wireless Mighty Mouse and a wireless keyboard and they both use AA batteries.
And keeping in mind the obvious fact that you could get any set of rechargeable AA batteries and charger, but something about getting it from Apple makes it seem logical. Granted, that may be a slight resurge of the long lost Apple fanboy coming out but at the same time — its an accessory that many will likely not think of until its presented at the time of order. And then Apple has you. Plus, it has the cool Apple inspired design. Ok, that is clearly the fanboy coming out.
That aside though, the Apple Battery Charger seems to be a pretty solid deal. Its priced at $29 and ships with the charger and six AA batteries. Interestingly enough, the charger appears to only charge two of those batteries at a time though. Otherwise, the batteries are NiHM and are said to be “ready to use right out of the box” and able to last for up to 10 years. In addition, the Apple Battery Charger is described as having the lowest “vampire draw” on the market. Basically, this means that the charger will automatically reduce power intake as the batteries become fully charged.
Sounds good in that respect, but perhaps more important are the dead batteries that you will no longer be tossing in the trash.
