Amimon Demonstrates Wireless 3D HD Video
It seems more and more like 3D is not just some kind of cheesy gimmick so much as it is the cheesy gimmick that everybody and his mother is embracing. So to that end, we’ve got places like Amimon, who are actually using wireless transmission to send 3D HD video.
Amimon’s demo, which uses 5 GHz WHDI, actually shows itself sending 1080p 3D video at a 24 frame per second frame rate. Now that by itself certainly sounds impressive, until you find out that it also manages to do this without any serious stuttering.
The system itself is actaully really simple–one circuit board does the sending and another one connected to a television does the receiving. Both boards, meanwhile, have Amimon’s proprietary digital baseband chip and an RF transceiver, meaning that it’s roughly a few cosmetic alterations away from being ready for market.
This leaves us with one issue–will we have augmentation kits for older televisions? Or will we have new televisions with wireless 3D support included? Or, perhaps, we’ll have both at once. Naturally, no word on pricing and release dates yet, but it will likely be soon and pricey.
